
In this objective, children will learn how to add the suffix ing to bases to show that a verb is continuing. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Recap bases that are verbs
· Revisit learning on the past tense suffix -ed
· Review learning on verb phrases and the auxiliary verb ‘to be’
· Implement verbs with the suffix -ing into verb phrases
· Differentiate between ‘ing’ as a spelling pattern and ‘-ing’ as a suffix
· Learn how to add the suffix -ing to regular verbs
· Review consonant and vowel letters
· Learn three spelling rules
1. Double the final consonant letter when a word ends in a CVC pattern, then add the suffix -ing.
2. Drop the final silent e vowel letter, then add the suffix -ing
3. Just add the suffix -ing
