
In this objective, children will learn how to add the suffix -al to bases and stems. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Recap learning of morphemes
· Learn that the suffix -al means “action, process or related to”
· Learn that adding the suffix -al to a base or stem often forms an adjective
· Build stems by combining morphemes
· Apply three spelling rules:
Drop the final silent e vowel letter, then add the vowel suffix.
Change the final letter y after a consonant letter to i, then add the suffix (except -ing).
Just add the suffix.
· Learn that the vowel suffix -al doesn’t trigger doubling a consonant
· Explore the etymology of words with the suffix -al
· Solve word sums
· Reinforce learning with practical games
