
In this objective, children will revisit suffix -an from Year 3 and build on their previous learning. Over four 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Recap learning of suffix -an and the suffixing conventions needed when added to a base or stem · Learn that some bases and stems need to add a connecting vowel letter before adding suffix -an · Learn that many historical periods are named after the person in power at that time and often take the suffix -an. · Break words with suffix -an into word sums · Explore words that can be made with the bound base ‘pede’ · Learn that many bases have suffix -ic added before suffix -an · Explore the etymology of some bound bases · Box the base of words with suffix -an and learn about its etymology · Reinforce learning with practical games
