
In this lesson, children will develop their understanding of comparing to order the lengths and heights of objects introducing the terminology: shortest, tallest and longest. Children are not expected to convert between metres and centimetres but will use their knowledge to compare objects in cm and m. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by additional fluency questions, differentiated practical fluency activities, differentiated reasoning and problem-solving challenge cards. National Curriculum Objectives: Mathematics Year 2: • Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels. • Compare and order lengths, mass, volume/capacity and record the results
