
In this lesson, children will develop the ability to compare the lengths and heights of objects using the language shorter than, taller than, longer than, same and equal. Children will use appropriate vocabulary depending on the type of length they are describing. They are not expected to convert between metres and centimetres but will use their knowledge to compare objects in cm and m. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by additional fluency questions, differentiated practical fluency activities, differentiated reasoning and problem-solving challenge cards. National Curriculum Objectives: Mathematics Year 2: • Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels. • Compare and order lengths, mass, volume/capacity and record the results
