
In this lesson, children will use a ruler to measure the length and height of objects. They will learn the importance of measuring an object from 0 and will recognise that they need to look at the nearest centimetre when measuring an object that is not a whole number of centimetres. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by additional fluency questions, differentiated practical fluency activities, differentiated reasoning and problem-solving challenge cards. National Curriculum Objectives: Mathematics Year 2: • Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels.
