
In this objective, children will learn to form plurals and present tense verbs by adding suffix -s, -es to singular bases. In four 20-minute lessons, they will:
Understand terminology singular and plural
Learn spelling rules to add suffix -s, -es to bases:
1. Just add -s
2. If the base ends in s, ss, sh, ch, tch, x, y, zz, we use -es3. If the base ends in o, we often use -es4. Change the final letter y after a consonant letter to i, then add the suffix -es5. Often if the base ends in f or fe, drop the f or fe, change it into v and add suffix -es
Sort words by the correct plural suffix
Recognise irregular nouns that don’t follow the -s, -es rule
Identify that verbs that follow a third person singular pronoun needs to add the suffix -s or -es
