In this lesson, children use several different methods to correctly subtract decimals with one. As in the addition lesson, this subtraction lesson uses place value counters on a place value grid. Here children use knowledge of exchange within whole numbers to subtract decimals. Decimals on a number line are also used to subtract a smaller decimal from a larger one. There is a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions.
