In this lesson, children learn to add decimals within one whole. Using place value counters and place value charts to support adding together decimals, including exchanging between columns. Hundred squares are used to show that 0.71 is 71 hundredths and that these additions can be made on the hundred square as 100 small squares = 1 whole. There is a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions.
