This lesson will introduce children to block diagrams and teach them how to draw them and how to answer questions about them. There is a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions.

National Curriculum Objectives:
Mathematics Year 2: 

interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables
ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity
ask and answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data.

There are three levels of differentiation in this pack: ‘working towards,’ ‘expected’ and ‘greater depth’.
