In this objective, children will learn how to add prefix sub- to bases and stems. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will: ·       Understand how adding the prefix sub- changes the meaning of the base or stem. ·       Explore bases and stems, developing understanding of how words are formed by combining with different morphemes. ·       Apply four spelling rules:

Double the final consonant letter when a word ends in a CVC pattern and the stress is on the last syllable, then add the vowel suffix. Drop the final silent e vowel letter, then add the vowel suffix. Change the final letter y after a consonant letter to i, then add the suffix. Just add the suffix -y.
