
In this objective, children will learn how to add the suffixes -ed and -ing to polysyllabic words with stressed vowels. Over four 20-minute lessons, they will:· Learn that a stressed vowel is louder, longer and more pronounced than an unstressed vowel· Use speaking and listening skills to practise identifying when they can hear a stressed vowel· Learn that an unstressed vowel is quieter and weaker · Review rules for adding the suffixes -ed and -ing to bases and stems· Learn that if the stressed vowel is in the second syllable followed by a consonant letter, we double the consonant before adding suffixes -ed and -ing· Learn that the letter l is always doubled regardless of the stressed syllable · Reinforce learning with practical games
