Description

In this lesson, children will begin to understand that multiplication is commutative using arrays to support their learning. They will use concrete resources and begin to draw arrays as well as writing two multiplication sentences. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by additional fluency questions, differentiated practical fluency activities, differentiated reasoning and problem-solving challenge cards.

National Curriculum Objectives: Mathematics Year 2:

Calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division within the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (×), division (÷) and equals (=) signs Show that multiplication of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative) and division of one number by another cannot
