This differentiated lesson focuses on helping children explore how we can stay healthy. Children learn about the importance of a healthy diet, understanding different food groups, what each food does for the body, and why some foods are considered unhealthy. They apply their learning by designing a healthy meal for Troy and evaluating their choices. The lesson then moves on to good hygiene, including why and when we should wash our hands. Children practice handwashing and use their knowledge to predict what might happen if hygiene is not followed. Finally, children use what they have learned to offer advice to Troy about staying healthy. Note that this lesson could be taught in two sessions or as one longer lesson.
