In this objective, children will revisit suffix -an from Year 3 and build on their previous learning.  Over four 20-minute lessons, they will:

Recap learning of suffix -an and that it adds a sense of a "person with a skill, belief or linked to something" when combined with bases and stems Revisit vowel suffixing conventions Learn that some bases and stems need a connecting vowel letter before combining suffix -an Learn that many historical periods are named after the person in power at that time and can be combined with suffix -an to add a sense of being "linked" to that historical period Break words with suffix -an into word sums Learn about the etymology of new bases Use a matrix to explore words that can be made with bound base ‘pede’ Learn that many stems that contain suffix -ic can be combined with suffix -an Box the base of some words that contain suffix -an Reinforce learning with practical games
