Description

In this lesson, children add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, where they will only need to add or subtract the numerators. They will explore adding three or more fractions. They can use bar models to represent this alongside the abstract form. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions, as well as 3 sets of extra fluency questions.

Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, and denominators that are multiples of the same number
Recognise mixed numbers and improper fractions and convert from one form to the other and write mathematical statements > 1 as a mixed number
