Description

In this lesson, children will link addition and subtraction facts for the first time. They will explore using the same numbers to create fact families using addition and subtraction number sentences. Pictorial and concrete resources are advised. A teaching presentation and resource with fluency and reasoning activities is available.
National Curriculum Objectives:
Mathematics Year 1:

Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
Add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero
Solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7 = – 9.

Differentiation:
There are three levels of differentiation in this pack: ‘working towards,’ ‘expected’ and ‘greater depth’.
