In this lesson, children begin by comparing two numbers, then progress onto ordering groups of integers that include both positive and negative numbers. Misconceptions will be addressed using number lines to show that positive integers appear on the right hand side (or farther up on a vertical number line). Therefore showing, for example, that -2 is greater than -7. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions, as well as 3 sets of extra fluency questions.
