This model text is a diary entry from the perspective of a little girl experiencing the outbreak of war in England. It is inspired by the Save the Children advert which was a reaction to the war in Syria. It has been written to meet the Year 5 expected standard and comes with a handy annotated version detailing the text-type specific features (red), grammar (green), punctuation (purple) and spelling (blue) teaching opportunities should you wish to use this text with your learners.
