This lesson focuses on applying knowledge of place value to metric measurements. Children will practise converting between units of measurement by multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. There is a teaching presentation and three levels of worksheets (working towards, expected and greater depth) with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions.

Mathematics Year 6:
· convert between different units of metric measure (for example, kilometre and metre; centimetre and metre; centimetre and millimetre; gram and kilogram; litre and millilitre)
· understand and use approximate equivalences between metric units and common imperial units such as inches, pounds and pints
· solve problems involving converting between units of time
· use all four operations to solve problems involving measure [for example, length, mass, volume, money] using decimal notation, including scaling.
