
In this objective, children will learn that prefixes ab- and a- add a sense of “away, off or down” to the bases or stems they combines with. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
Understand how adding the prefix ab- or a- changes the meaning of the base or stem Learn that prefixes a- and abs- are assimilated forms of prefix ab- Build a range of word sums and recognise why and where the assimilated forms are used Explore a range of bases and stems which combine with prefix ab- and its assimilated forms Revisit suffixing rules Use a matrix and word webs to explore building words with a range of bases, including free bases 'norm' and 'use' as well as bound base 'dice'
