
In this objective, children will learn how to add suffix -an to bases. Over four 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Learn how to add suffix -an to places (countries and continents) to form a word that tells us a person is “linked to” that place
· Learn the etymology and morphology of some places, understanding how they got their names and that sometimes we need a connecting vowel letter (CVL) to form the spellings of these places
· Recap learning of free and bound bases
· Learn the meanings of some new bound bases that take suffix -an
· Recognise the difference between words with suffix -an and words with the ‘an’ letter string
· Apply the rule “change the final letter y after a consonant to i , then add suffix -an” to stems ending in the letter y
· Reinforce learning with practical games
