In this objective, children will learn how to add suffix - ish to bases and stems. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Understand how adding the suffix -ish changes the meaning of the base or stem
· Recognise that the suffix -ish is used to form new words
· Understand that the suffix -ish can be used colloquially to communicate meaning
· Explore forming their own words using the suffix -ish
Apply three spelling rules:
Double the final consonant letter when a word ends in a CVC pattern and the stress is on the last syllable, then add the vowel suffix.
Drop the final silent e vowel letter, then add the vowel suffix.
Just add the suffix.
