
These ready-to-use tasks support pupils in revisiting the punctuation of single-clause sentences using the PVPG approach. This resource includes sentence banks progressing from Stage 1 (simple subject–verb sentences) to Stage 3 (sentences with leftovers that could belong to either clause) and unpunctuated paragraphs. Pupils are challenged to punctuate these accurately by identifying the subject, verb or verb phrase and any leftovers, as well as deciding which clause the leftovers belong to.
Using Sentence Pattern Building cards, pupils are also challenged to identify the function of each leftover: an object (what?), a complement (+noun) or an adverbial (where?, when?, why?, how?).
