
This editable lesson focuses on the core Design and Technology (DT) skill of making a functional product. In this lesson, children sew together the main body of their tote bag using a seam allowance and strong stitching to ensure security and durability. They attach two handles and reinforce them so the bag can safely carry books. Pupils then apply their book-themed motif using fabric pens or paints. Throughout the lesson, children make choices that combine strength, neatness, sustainability and visual appeal.
