This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two non-chronological reports, one comparing the properties of metals and non-metals and the other detailing the differences between acids and alkalis. The first non-chronological report, that accompanies the teaching slides, is a detailed text which describes how metals and non-metals are categorised. It has been written to meet the Year 3 expected standard with some high-level subject-specific vocabulary and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on two curriculum content domains (vocabulary and retrieval). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in depth practice of each individual question type.
The second model text is also a non-chronological with lots of facts about acids and alkalis. This text has been written to meet the Year 3 expected standard and is accompanied by one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills independently. The answers to all questions are included.
