
In this objective, children will learn how to add base form to a range of prefixes, suffixes and other bases. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
Learn the meaning of the base form and its origin. Identify words that contain the base form. Recap compound words and build compounds with base form. Explore the etymology of new words containing base form and base mal. Add morphemes including prefixes such as de-, in- and trans- and suffixes such as -s, -ate and -ion to create new words. Use matrices to build a variety of words with the base form. Reinforce learning with practical games, including a modelling clay activity.
