In this objective, children will learn how to add the comparative and superlative suffixes -er and -est. Over six 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Practise base word spellings
· Explore how words ending in suffixes -er and -est function in a sentence
· Learn that adding -er and -est to a base word forms an adjective
· Review spelling rules from previously taught suffixes
· Learn a range of rules for adding the suffixes -er and -est: just add the suffix to the base word, drop e and add the suffix, turn y to i and double the consonant.
· Learn words that take a special form of superlative and comparative adjectives (adding more or most before the adjective)
· Reinforce learning with practical games
