
In this objective, children will learn that prefixes en- and em- add a sense of “in, cause or make” to the bases or stems they combines with. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
Understand how adding the prefix en- or em- changes the meaning of the base or stem Learn that prefix em- is an assimilated form of prefix en- Build a range of word sums and recognise why and where the assimilated prefix em- is used Explore a range of bases and stems which combine with prefixes en- or em- and learn about their etymology Revisit suffixing rules Use a matrix and word webs to explore building words with a range of bases, including free bases force, light and power
