
Prior to this objective, teachers should assess the suggested morphemes for a Narrative - characterising speech using the provided materials. If learning is secure, proceed to prefix inter- objective; otherwise, refer to resources for additional support on suffix -ed, suffix -ing - verbs (Y2).
In this objective, children will learn how to add prefix inter- to bases and stems to form new words. Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Learn that prefix inter- means “between or within”
. Recognise how prefix inter- changes the meaning of the base or stem
· Solve word sums
. Develop understanding of free and bound bases
. Explore combining bases and stems with different morphemes
. Use challenging vocabulary in context
. Apply three suffixing rules:
Drop the final silent e vowel letter, then add the vowel suffix.
Change the final letter y after a consonant letter to i, then add the suffix (except -ing).
Just add the suffix.
