Description

In this lesson, children develop their understanding of multiplication using pictorial representations before moving on to more abstract representations. They compare groups of multiplication and division statements and are encouraged to work out comparisons by comparing numbers instead of solving calculations through recognising relationships between the numbers.
National Curriculum objectives:
Write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for 2-digit numbers times 1-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods
Differentiation:
There are three levels of differentiation in this pack: ‘working towards,’ ‘expected’ and ‘greater depth’.
