This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two texts based on Christmas. The first text is a playscript linking Christmas and Halloween. It has been written to meet the Year 3 expected standard and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on three curriculum content domains (vocabulary, retrieval and inference). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in-depth practice of each individual question type. 

The second model text is a playscript about Scrooge. This text has been written to meet the Year 3 expected standard and comes with one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills more independently. The answers to all questions are included.

National curriculum objectives:Year 3: Pupils should be taught to answer a variety of comprehension questions across a mixture of genres. This text focuses on developing vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills.
