Children will begin to calculate multiples of 3 by making links between repeated addition and multiplication. They apply their knowledge of equal groups and use a range of concrete and pictorial representations to deepen their understanding of multiplying by 3.

National Curriculum objectives Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables  Write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for 2-digit numbers times 1-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods.
