About Grammarsaurus
Grammarsaurus is a leading provider of high-quality teaching resources, trusted by thousands of educators across the UK and internationally. We are passionate about supporting teachers with expertly designed materials that make learning meaningful, accessible, and enjoyable.
We are now developing an independent Early Literacy Programme — a pioneering approach to early reading and writing that moves beyond traditional phonics schemes. Our reduced GPC approach teaches real grapheme–phoneme correspondences alongside morphology and etymology, empowering children to understand how the English writing system truly works and to use it confidently in both reading and writing.
The Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable and creative Early Literacy Content Creator to help shape this exciting new programme. Working remotely on a freelance basis, you will design engaging early reading and writing resources for Reception and Year 1, contributing to a coherent, research-informed learning journey.
You will work closely with Claire, our Phonics Project Manager, as well as the wider curriculum and design teams, to ensure that every resource is accurate, engaging, and aligned with the programme’s linguistic framework.
As part of this role, you will also write original stories for decodable texts, supporting children as they develop confidence and fluency through meaningful, language-rich reading experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Create clear, engaging early reading and writing resources for Reception–Year 1, following our reduced GPC and linguistic framework
- Develop teaching content that integrates phonics, morphology, and etymology to strengthen decoding and encoding
- Write decodable stories and texts that align with the programme’s sequence and promote understanding of real GPCs
- Produce lesson materials, pupil activities, and teacher guidance that promote a deep understanding of how written English works
- Liaise with Claire, our Phonics Project Manager, to ensure consistency and coherence across all materials
- Review and refine content in response to feedback, maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy
- Collaborate with designers and editors to ensure resources are visually engaging and classroom-ready
Essential Criteria
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent classroom experience in teaching early reading and writing
- Strong understanding of phonics, early literacy development, and the structure of the English writing system
- Excellent written English and creative writing skills suitable for early readers
- An eye for appealing design, clear layout, and age-appropriate presentation
- Ability to plan and sequence high-quality early literacy lessons and resources
- Organised, proactive, and able to meet deadlines while working independently
Desirable
- Experience developing or writing educational resources for schools or online platforms
- Interest or background in linguistics, orthography, morphology, or etymology
- Familiarity with digital collaboration tools and remote teamwork
What We Offer
- Fully remote working with flexible hours
- £33,150 per annum (equivalent to £17 per hour) — freelance, self-employed basis (responsible for own tax)
- Bonuses and incremental pay reviews based on performance and contribution
- Opportunity to contribute to an innovative, research-driven early literacy programme
- Supportive collaboration with Claire and the wider Grammarsaurus education team
- Potential for ongoing project work with Grammarsaurus
