Prior to this objective, teachers should assess the -s, -es, and -y suffixes using the provided materials. If children have secured these and the suffix -ous from Y3, proceed to the -ous, ious and eous suffix objective for Y4; otherwise, revisit appropriate resources for additional support.
Over five 20-minute lessons, children will:
· Review Y3 objectives for base word spellings for -ous
· Explore bound base words using the suffix –ous, -ious, -eous
· Be introduced to the etymology of some root words with bound bases
· Identify words that do not follow the typical spelling rules
· Learn how to apply the suffix for words ending in the spelling pattern ‘our’
