Prior to this objective, teachers should assess the suffix -y using the provided materials. If learning is secure, proceed to the al- suffix objective; otherwise, refer to Y2 resources for additional support on the suffix y.  

In this objective, children will learn how to add the prefix tele- to base words.  Over three 20-minute lessons, they will:
·               Learn that the suffix -al can be added to a base word
·               Learn that adding the suffix -al to some nouns often forms an adjective
·               Practise spelling some base words that take the suffix -al
·               Learn spelling rules (just add the suffix -al, drop e and add -al, change y to an i and add -al)
·               Learn a range of bound base words with the suffix -al
·               Learn words that need to follow a special rule of adding the letter u before the suffix -al
·               Use matrices to build a variety of words
·               Reinforce learning with practical games
