This differentiated science lesson questions how you might identify unknown organisms. It explores different ways to sort and group shapes in order to classify them and links this to animal classification. We are introduced to a taxonomic classification key for animals and look how vertebrates and invertebrates are classified. The main activity encourages children to observe invertebrates closely in order to classify them. An alternative activity suggestion is included.
