In this lesson, children use their knowledge of factors to learn about prime numbers. They learn that prime numbers have only two factors, itself and one. In contrast, they learn that numbers with more than two factors are composite numbers. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions, as well as 3 sets of extra fluency questions.

Know and use the vocabulary of prime numbers, prime factors and composite (non-prime) numbers
Establish whether a number up to 100 is prime and recall prime numbers up to 19
