Description

This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two texts based on animals and insects. The first text is a non-chronological report about animal groupings. It has been written to meet the Year 2 expected standard and comes with two sets of comprehension questions, based on two curriculum content domains (vocabulary and retrieval). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in-depth practice of each individual question type.
The second model text is a non-chronological report about insects. This text has been written to meet the Year 2 expected standard and is accompanied by one set of comprehension questions, which includes the two styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills more independently. The answers to all questions are included.

National curriculum objectives:
Year 2: Pupils should be taught to answer a variety of comprehension questions across a mixture of genres. This text focuses on developing vocabulary and retrieval skills.
