This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two recounts in the format of interviews, one with a cardiologist and one with an Egyptian pharaoh. The first text, that accompanies the teaching slides, is an informative and engaging discussion with a cardiologist, who details her working day, passion for this field of medicine and insights into the role of a cardiologist. It meets the Year 6 expected standard and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on three curriculum content domains (vocabulary, retrieval and summary). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in depth practice of each individual question type.

The second model text is also an interview, this time with Rameses II, who discusses his empire, life as a pharaoh and the importance of this role. This part also meets the Year 6 expected standard and is accompanied by one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills independently. The answers to all questions are included.
