This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two poems, one personifying the different personalities of the sky and how it looks and one describing a storm out at sea. The first poem, that accompanies the teaching slides, is a beautifully descriptive poem written in rhyming couplets and stanzas, describing the sky playing different roles such as a barista and an artist. It has been written to meet the Year 4 expected standard and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on three curriculum content domains (vocabulary, retrieval and inference). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in depth practice of each individual question type.
The second model text is also a poem written in stanzas, with lots of figurative language examples such as onomatopoeia, similes, metaphors and personification. This text has been written to meet the Year 4 expected standard and is accompanied by one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills independently. The answers to all questions are included.
