In this objective, children will learn how to add the base words super- and sur- to other base words to form new words. Over four 20-minute lessons, they will:
· Learn that super is a base word that can stand alone or be added before another base word (acting like a prefix)
· Learn that the morphemes super- and sur- mean above, over, beyond or greater than
· Learn that the morpheme -s can be added to nouns containing the morpheme super-
· Identify adjectives with the morpheme super-
· Learn that the morpheme sur- carries the same meaning as super-
· Build word sums
· Explore the etymology of new base words
· Use a range of morphemes to add to words with the morpheme sur-
· Use matrices to build a range of words
· Reinforce learning with practical games
