This model text involves two informal letters shared between a mother and daughter, who are both living during the Potato Famine. The daughter has fled Ireland and is a refugee in America whilst her mother remains in Ireland, hoping to survive the famine. It has been written to meet the Year 6 expected standard and comes with a handy annotated version detailing the text-type specific features (red), grammar (green), punctuation (purple) and spelling (blue) teaching opportunities should you wish to use this text with your learners.
