This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes one non-chronological report and one recount letter, both focusing on migration and largely on the Windrush generation. The first text, the non-chronological report, that accompanies the teaching slides, is a detailed text which details various reasons for international migration to Britain over time, starting from the time of the Roman invasion up until the present day. It has been written to meet the Year 6 expected standard and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on three curriculum content domains (vocabulary, retrieval and summary). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in depth practice of each individual question type.
The second model text is a letter, written from the perspective of an older member of the Windrush ship, detailing it’s journey and arrival in Britain. This text has been written to meet the Year 6 expected standard and is accompanied by one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills independently. The answers to all questions are included.
