In this lesson, children build on their learning from the previous step and estimate the position of numbers on number lines to 1,000. They should start to explain their thinking and reasoning behind estimates. They can use their knowledge of intervals, midpoints and which numbers are closer to or further from a division. This lesson includes a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions, as well as 3 sets of extra fluency questions.National Curriculum Objectives:Mathematics Year 3:

• Count from zero in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100; find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number• Identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations
