This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two texts based on Roman and Greek myths. The first text is a narrative about Apollo and Cassandra. It has been written to meet the Year 4 expected standard and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on three curriculum content domains (retrieval, inference and identify/explain.). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in-depth practice of each individual question type.
The second model text is a narrative telling the well-known story of Theseus and the Minotaur. This text has been written to meet the Year 4 expected standard and comes with one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of question, previously practised. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practise these same skills more independently. The answers to all questions are included.

Year 4: Pupils should be taught to answer a variety of comprehension questions across a mixture of genres. This text focuses on developing retrieval, inference and identify/explain skills.
