This comprehension crusher reading scheme pack includes two narratives about explorers. The first text, that accompanies the teaching slides, is a narrative about the famous explorer Charles Darwin. It has been written to meet the Year 3 expected standard and comes with three sets of comprehension questions, based on three curriculum content domains (retrieval, summarise and inference). The teaching slides provided, along with the questions sets, allow for in depth practice of each individual question type. 

The second model text is a narrative about a young boy going on an adventure to find his explorer mum. This text has been written to meet the Year 3 expected standard and is accompanied by one set of comprehension questions, which includes the three styles of questions, previously practiced. This provides an ‘unseen’ text and additional questions to practice these same skills more independently. The answers to all questions are included.

National curriculum objectives:Year 3: Pupils should be taught to answer a variety of comprehension questions across a mixture of genres. This text focuses on developing retrieval, summarising and inference skills.
