In this lesson, children revisit Year 3 learning of how to read and interpret data from pictograms, tables and bar graphs. They read information from different charts and decide on a suitable scale for drawing their own bar graphs. They have the opportunity to gather and present their own data, as well as ask questions about data. There is a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions.
National Curriculum Objectives: Mathematics Year 4:
interpret and present data using bar charts, pictograms and tables
solve one-step and two-step questions [for example, ‘How many more?’ and ‘How many fewer?’] using information presented in scaled bar charts and pictograms and tables.
