In this lesson, children learn to add decimals within one whole. They use place value counters and place value charts to support adding decimals and understand what happens when we exchange between columns. They also build on their understanding that 0.45 is 45 hundredths and can use a hundred square to add decimals. There is a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions.
